Grand Hyatt Shanghai opened its doors to guests in 1999. To date the hotel has been thriving for 25 years, mostly due to its commitment to quality and personalized service. This summer the hotel will be celebrating its Silver Jubilee anniversary, a very special occasion to be marked with ceremonies, parties and large scare events.
Every time I go to the hotel or pass it, I see crowds of mostly youngsters taking pictures of the hotel, or selfies with it at the backdrop, at every creative angle only they can imagine. I guess they are the best brand ambassadors any hotels can ever find.
The hotel is 10 minutes’ drive from The Bund and Yu Gardens; is within easy access to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Shanghai World Financial Center, Shanghai Tower, and the International Conference Center. It is just minutes walk to Metro Line 2 Lujiazui Station.
Attractions near the Grand Hyatt Shanghai include the Bund, the historical buildings along the Huangpu River, the Oriental Pearl Tower, China Art Museum, and Yu Yuan Garden, just to name the obvious.

Let’s go inside Jin Mao Tower to see what Grand Hyatt Shanghai has to offer.
This iconic hotel is the landmark of Lujiazui business hub, Pudong area of Shanghai. It occupies floors 53 to 87 of the 88-story Jin Mao Tower.
It was once the highest hotel in the world, with its lobby situated on the 54th floor.
As I stepped into the awe-inspiring atrium on 56th floor, I found myself gasping at the sheer height and elegance of the space.
Dining
Grand Hyatt Shanghai boasts 8 restaurants and bars, all offering spectacular views over Shanghai and the skyline where the earthly and celestial realms converge. The restaurants offer luxuriously decorated rooms. Whether you’re seeking an intimate gathering or a gala dinner, or a business dining, the private rooms here provide an elegant place.
Impression Gallery and Dining (印艺术餐廊) is on 53rd floor. This diner is where artistic flair meets gourmet cuisine. It is Grand Hyatt Shanghai’s new addition to its food and beverage venues; it beautifully combines classical art with cultural and artistic homage.
Located on the 55th floor is the Canton Restaurant (粤珍轩). This specialty dining outlet offers traditional Cantonese cuisine which is all prepared by master chefs in a contemporary setting.
There are altogether three dining outlets on the 56th floor.
The Patio (天庭) located at the Atrium is a spectacular setting for afternoon tea and drinks. Looking up you’ll see the breathtaking tunnel-like view spiraling 33 floors all the way up to the crown of Jin Mao Tower.
The second outlet is a buffet specialty. If you are so much into buffet like myself, then do not miss this namesake restaurant ON56 (食在56). Its buffet experience is complemented by an unbeatable panoramic view of Shanghai through their floor-to-ceiling windows. ON56 delivers an array of exquisite delicacies.
The third hideaway on 56th floor is Kobachi (日珍) , a stunning open kitchen Japanese restaurant which serves freshly imported ingredients and seafood. The restaurant is perfect for food lovers of superb sushi, sashimi and yakitori in particular.
On 86th floor is Club Jin Mao, one of the most prestigious Shanghainese restaurants in Shanghai. Guests can indulge themselves in fine wine good tea genuine gastronomy here; all while enjoying framed views of Shanghai waterfront and Pudong skyline.
Located on 87th floor, the pinnacle of the Jin Mao tower of Grand Hyatt Shanghai, is Cloud 9 (九重天), a sky bar with panoramic views. It was voted one of the world’s best bars in 2000 by Forbes magazine.
Pastry Boutique (精饼屋) on 1st floor is a modern social space providing quality Espresso single origin coffees, handmade cakes, pastries and chocolates, which are ideal for gifting or a casual moment.
Rooms
Grand Hyatt Shanghai offers 548 spacious guestrooms and suites. They feature contemporary art deco style combined with traditional Chinese visuals.
There are 188 Grand rooms, 237 Grand River View rooms, 30 Club rooms, 49 Club River View rooms, 33 Grand suites, 1 Chairman Suite, 2 Presidential Suites, 8 Diplomat Suites.

Ballrooms
Hotel has two ballrooms (Grand & Crystal) and 11 versatile small to medium-sized event venues. It can cater to all sizes of banquets and meetings and weddings, and can present variety table styles and configurations according to specific requirement.
The ballrooms’ superior height on the Jin Mao Tower creates a feeling of being in the clouds for the guests. The towering floor-to-ceiling windows generate wide open views for the whole banquet hall.
The Grand Ballroom I, II and III are a group of three medium-sized, interconnecting conference rooms on the second floor, featuring a cathedral of wood and bronze, with details reflecting the geometric designs of Shanghai’s Art Deco heritage.
The Grand Ballroom is the hotel’s largest event venue and can be used in any combinations: individually, in pairs, or with all three connected into one immensely large space for up to 792 people in a seated dinner, or 1200 people in a cocktail party.
The Crystal Ballroom is hotel’s second large ballroom with 665 square meters. Beautiful chandeliers help create a grandeur atmosphere, making it an ideal venue for special celebrations. Crystal Ballroom can also be used in any combinations: individually, in pairs or with all three connected into one large space for up to 480 people in a seated dinner, or 800 people in a cocktail party.
The newly launched Aquarius has two multi-purpose rooms with a total area of 368 square meters and can accommodate up to 270 people at one time. Equipped with new audio facilities and LED electronic screen, it suits all purpose whether it is a cocktail party, a meeting or a dinner.
Simply put, the Grand Ballroom can accommodate 1200 people, the Crystal Ballroom of 800 people and 11 multi-function halls are equipped with complete art multimedia equipment and audio and video facilities. The newly launched Aquarius has two multi-purpose rooms with a total area of approximately 368 square meters and can accommodate up to 270 people.
Wellness
Club Oasis fitness club on hotel 57th floor has a fitness centre and a swimming pool.
The 24-hour Fitness Centre is equipped with the latest facilities, including hi-tech gears like stationary bicycles, treadmills, training bench, spinners, cross trainers, and strength machines.
Club Oasis also features what was once the world’s highest swimming pool. Imagine swimming with breathtaking panoramas of the Shanghai skyline.
