Interview Four Seasons Hotel Dalian General Manager
Wayne Tan, General Manager, Four Seasons Hotel Dalian

Four Seasons Hotel Dalian

The fabulous Four Seasons Hotel Dalian just celebrated opening one year. Last week, while visiting Dalian, I took the opportunity to interview Wayne Tan, the hotel’s general manager.  I thank Wayne for his time.

1. Could you share how your team has embodied the Four Seasons’ principle of “exceptional service and attention to detail”?

We do it by focusing on guest needs.

2. Could you share an example?

Certainly. During the inaugural year we had the privilege of hosting international dignitaries at the Summer Davos Forum, a prestigious global event during which our team showed great dedication to service. That required detailed planning and seamless collaboration among different departments.

3. On that note, what challenges had you faced, and how were they overcome?

Well, inevitably last-minute requests arose. However, our team’s adaptability and meticulous preparation allowed us to accommodate them without compromising service quality.

4. How do you ensure that your guests’ dining experience can reflect the local culture of Dalian and the global standards of the Four Seasons?

We collaborate closely with local media professionals and cultural experts to honour Dalian’s rich culinary heritage.

5. Could you recall a successful story from it?

Yes, of course, we crafted traditional Dalian cuisines by reimagining classic dishes with indigenous ingredients. The efforts resonated strongly with guests seeking local authenticity. We received very good patronage.

6. How has the Four Seasons Dalian incorporate sustainability or eco-friendly practices into hotel operations?

Sustainability is a key priority for us. We have implemented smart room systems that can adjust energy use based on occupancy, thus reducing consumption by 22% year-to-date.

Additionally, to eliminate single-use plastics, we encourage colleagues to use reusable cups to enjoy special priced coffee at Fresca, our pastry shop.

7. How do you envision the future of luxury hospitality evolving?

I believe the future of luxury hospitality is about creating deeper, more meaningful connection between guests and destinations, tradition and innovation, indulgence and responsibility.

8. In your opinion, what role will Four Seasons Hotel Dalian play in shaping that future?

We aim to lead this evolution by embracing three core principles: cultural authenticity, personalized service, and sustainable stewardship.

Cultural authenticity: By collaborating with local expertise to create even more memorable moments.

Personalised service: By tailoring experience according to individual preferences and local Dalian characteristics.

Sustainable stewardship: By reducing environmental footprint through partnerships with local suppliers with sustainability cause; and investing in technologies that can enhance efficiency without compromising luxury.
