Street Food Around the World Afternoon Tea

Street Food Around the World Afternoon Tea

The Lounge & Bar on Level 102 is presenting the Street Food Around the World Afternoon Tea.

From now to November 24, 2024, guests can indulge in a delectable celebration of international flavors and casual culinary delights while soaking in the spectacular view that Victoria Harbour has to offer.

Departing from the traditional afternoon tea format, this afternoon tea experience includes an interactive game element, taking guests on a tantalizing journey across continents.

Guests will receive an envelope containing a game card illustrated with depictions of various countries, as well as a description card. A dice with corresponding country icons is provided, allowing guests to roll and determine their destination.

Guests are then invited to savor the afternoon tea item from the rolled destination.

Inspired by the rich history and cultural significance behind these beloved delicacies, each afternoon delight has been meticulously crafted to capture the essence of its origin, allowing guests to explore the palatable tastes that have made this street food legendary.

For savory items, the Mexican Grilled Corn Esquites were said to be a dish accidentally created when Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico and Empress Charlotte of Belgium used corn flour instead of wheat in the late 1800s.

Another highlight will be the well-known food combination, Foie Gras and Apple Terrine, which pays tribute to Mr. Jean-Pierre Clause, a French Chef who turned the recipe into a dish for the royals.

For desserts, guests will be invited to Spain, where the Basque Cheesecake originated. The distinct characteristic of this Spanish delicacy is its scorched surface which adds to the unique and unmistakable aroma to its complexity, which recalls notes of salted caramel or browned butter.

The Fresh Fruit Popsicle “Paleta” was first created in Tocumbo, Michoacan in Mexico, where the local families with a passion for all things sweet, started to make these frozen treats to offer a refreshing and delicious snack. Paletas use locally sourced ingredients as Mexico has a wide variety of fresh fruits available throughout the year.

Returning to Asia, hotel chefs have recreated the most popular Hong Kong “street snack” – the Egg Waffle Ball. It is said that the Egg Waffle Ball first emerged from the enterprising post-war generation, where an egg-shaped mode was created to make up for an eggless batter, as eggs used to be a luxury. While the true origin of the Egg Waffle Ball remains unknown, there is no doubt that they have been ingrained in the memories of Hong Kong residents.

The Classic Matcha Melon Pan is a classic Japanese bread made from cookie dough. The baked crust has a cracked, ridged appearance resembling a ripe melon, giving the bread its name. The crisp exterior encases a rich, creamy matcha-flavored filling, creating a visually appealing and deliciously balanced treat.

The iconic Mango Sticky Rice is a traditional South Asian dessert made with glutinous rice, fresh mango and coconut milk, eaten with a spoon or hands. The interplay between the sweetened and coconut-flavored rice and the slight zing in the mango illustrates a delightful balance of sweet and tropical flavors.
